Let’s be honest, unique jewelry is at the top of all of the Hannukah wish lists. Sitting at the top of our are a few of the pieces from Tel Aviv based jewelry brand Born From Rock. Beyond the fleeting world of fast fashion, these precious pieces are designed lovingly by hand by Nira, Maayan and Gili. Decked out with semi-precious stones and beautifully cast metals, Born From Rock offers all us jewelry lovers something to really lust after. From gorgeous gold bands to birthstone rings and pendulous chain earrings, you will find yourself drooling from your earlobes to your pinkies.
Telavivian: What one piece of clothing do you wear the most?
Nira: Oversized button-down shirt
Maayan: Button-down denim shirt.
Gili: Long plisse skirt.
What is your favourite drink?
Best wall colour?
If you were to die and come back as an animal, which animal would it be?
Nira: Any sea mammal.
Maayan: An octopus.
Gili: An owl.
What is your perfect accessory?
Our BFR eye rings!
What would you like to change about the fashion world?
Less fear about looking silly and being judged. More crazy, individual style. We also think that people should be more aware of how the products they consume were made and where they come from.
What is your motto?
Acknowledge the moment when it’s happening.
How would the world be different if it was run by women?
We would prefer to imagine a world that’s not run by any specific gender, and that allows freedom and acceptance of all people.
What do you like most about your new collection?
We like that it tells a story that combines our inner worlds, and we love the fact that it was born as a true collaboration between the three of us, It seems to attract really special individuals.
What is your highest ambition?
We aspire to make something substantial, in whatever field we’re working in, something honest that could have meaning and maybe even contribute something to the world. Of course it’s also important to enjoy the process!
If you weren’t a designer, what would you have done instead?
Nira: I would have formed a girl band with Gili.
Gili: It could have been fun to be a glassblower.
What is your favourite restaurant or cafe in Tel Aviv?
Thai House on Bograshov Street.
What is your most treasured possession?
Nira: The jewelry I got from my mother, anything that I receive as a gift from friends.
Maayan: My glasses.
Gili: A mother of pearl necklace I bought a few years ago in Jerusalem.
Who is your favourite Israeli artist?
Abigail Hopkins, Tomer Rosenthal and of course our own Maayan Elyakim.
