Meet Our Designers: Palm & Oliveby Anna Kopito | 08.12.14
You can never have too many accessories, but finding the right accessories takes time and patience and excellent eye. Fortunately we’ve done all the hard work for you and will be selling products by Palm & Olive at our Hanukkah pop-up. Palm & Olive is a new boutique design label founded by Industrial designer Daniela Bekerman and graphic designer Maya Cohen. Merging their unique design interests into a united label – Palm & Olive offers minimalist, clean direct and functional small leather accessories. Not only are these piece stunning, they are made locally, made with high quality leather and are handled with the utmost care and crafted to perfection with age-old expertise.
Telavivian: What one piece of clothing do you wear the most?
Maya: High waisted jeans
Daniela: Buttoned shirt.
What is you idea of the perfect Saturday morning?
Maya: Breakfast at home with jazz records playing.
Daniela: To sleep until I get tired of sleeping.
What is your favourite drink?
Maya: Cold coffee.
Daniela: In the morning I love coffee and in the evening beer.
What is your greatest achievement?
Our work system is in itself an achievement for us. We design our items and work together on Skype video calls between Tel Aviv and Madrid. Being able to work together despite our distance is pure magic.
Best wall colour?
Maya: Light grey.
If you were to die and come back as an animal, which animal would it be?
Maya: As I’m quite obsessed with snowy views but am a very bad skier I would say snow fox. That would be awesome.
Daniela: An otter or a panda.
What is your perfect accessory?
Daniela: A good perfume.
What would you like to change about the fashion world?
Maya: I would like it to be more transparent.
Daniela: I would like high fashion to be more affordable.
What is your motto?
Maya: Random rules.
Daniela: Step by step (and I am not talking about the TV show).
How would the world be different if it was run by women?
Maya: I think it would be more fair than it is now.
Daniela: There would be less war.
What do you like most about your new collection?
We like the manipulation we created between the perception of the 2 & 3 dimensions in our items. It represents our relationship as two designers coming from two different design areas. Also we love the simplicity in our design, it has no secrets.
What is your highest ambition?
Maya: To always do what I love.
Daniela: To have at least one high ambition.
If you weren’t a designer, what would you have done instead?
Maya: I would have being a binder. I love to work with paper and I love the smell of the glue.
Daniela: A veterinarian.
What is your favourite restaurant or cafe in Tel Aviv?
Maya: Cafe Hatachtit.
Daniela: Cafe Puaa in Jaffa.
What is your most treasured possession?
Maya: Old family albums.
Daniela: My mother’s recipes.
Who is your favourite Israeli artist?
Maya: David Adika inspires me a lot.
Daniela: Adi Nes.
